The SMB-Winning Consortium (SMB), of which China Hongqiao Group Limited is a member, offered $2 million worth of anti-epidemic medical equipment and materials to Guinea on April 21, 2020.
The group looks to help
combat the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in Guinea.
Rémy
Lamah, Guinea’s
minister of health, received the donation on behalf of the people of Guinea
during the donation ceremony held at the SMB headquarters in Coléah in
the municipality of Matam.
“I would like to thank the
SMB-Winning in the name of our president Alpha Condé and
prime minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana,” said Lamah.
Lamah called the donation a
great help with the world experiencing “a global crisis.”
“They will solve a lot of
problems in testing speed, patient follow-up, and contact testing,” he added.
Included in SMB’s donation
are rapid-test kits and personal protection equipment — gloves, masks, and
outfits. The organization also offered a rapid-test machine with all the
material and refills that go with it.
A majority of the donation
goes to the Boké region of Guinea, offering help to local public
facilities.
Hospitals and health centers
in Kamsar, Katrouma, and Tamita are particular destinations of the supplies.
“The donation is expected to
help speed up screening, support more effective care, and further protect
health staff on the front line,” said Ishmael Diakité, the
representative of SMB Winning Consortium in Guinea.
