China Hongqiao is pleased to announce that it has joined the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as a new production and transformation member, a move to further its commitment to the green and sustainable development of the global aluminum value chain.
The ASI is a global non-profit standards setting and certification organization bringing together producers, users and stakeholders in the aluminum value chain, with a commitment to maximizing the contribution of aluminum to a sustainable society. Working together, the ASI aims to collaboratively foster responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. Since its founding in 2015, it has seen almost 100 production and transformation members joining the Initiative.
China Hongqiao is determined to achieve high standards. China Hongqiao is seeking to accelerate the pace of achievements in carbon reductions, implementing sustainable development, fostering responsible production, including the circular economy of aluminum recycling.
“China Hongqiao has been devoted to optimizing its energy structure to achieve sustainable, low-carbon development,” said Chairman and CEO Zhang Bo.
Last September, the green aluminum innovation industrial park that China Hongqiao invested in Yunnan commenced production. One-third of China Hongqiao’s aluminum production capacity, or more than 2 million tonnes of annual capacity, will turn green, powered by hydropower.
“China Hongqiao’s Yunnan project is a positive demonstration of how companies in the high carbon footprint industry of primary aluminum can achieve low carbon outcomes”, said Zhang Bo.
