Since successfully putting into operation the world's first 600 kA extra-large electrolytic aluminum production line in the industry back in 2014, China Hongqiao Group has continuously work towards improving green aluminum production.
While continuing to reduce carbon emissions from its own primary aluminum production, the Group has been focusing on lightweight technology for the research and development of lightweight products which can help reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
Since 2016, it has cooperated with Soochow University and established a high-end aluminum material manufacturing and application technology research institute in the field of lightweight in transportation vehicles.
At the end of 2019, the construction of China Hongqiao Group Lightweight Base, a world-leading full-process lightweight R&D test and manufacturing base was put in motion.
A year later, in 2020, Weiqiao Germany was established in Düsseldorf, Germany to foster international cooperation with overseas companies, universities and research institutes such as RWTH Aachen University in Germany, Lightweight Bureau of Bavaria in Germany, German Aerospace Center, Scholz, etc.
In 2021, the Group joined hands with China’s Central South University to jointly promote the research and development of new technologies for intelligent, efficient and clean aluminum electrolysis, and strive to provide solid technical support for leading the construction of a high-end aluminum industry base in the world.
At present, the research project of high-strength and high-toughness aluminum alloy has achieved preliminary results, and five projects in the lightweight base have been put into production. At the same time, the Group has also established joint cooperation programs with relevant institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to tackle the problems of relegation use of recycled aluminum and special connection technology, and strive to build a green ecosystem of the entire industry chain.
